That’s Not My Puppy! Cantonese Translation

I love reading to AJ in Cantonese but unfortunately, there aren’t many books out there that I can read to him as I rely on Jyutping. I’ve spent weeks scouring the internet for more translations of popular children’s books but eventually, I came to the conclusion that I would need to start making my own translations as well.

The “That’s not my…” book series are incredibly popular still to this day (I remember loving them when I was a toddler) and I’ve bought a few for AJ. What baby doesn’t love the combination of different textures and bright illustrations?

I’m starting with “That’s Not My Puppy!” Because the sentence structure on each page remains the same, I thought this would be the perfect book to attempt my first translation.

Book Translation Printable

The translation includes both written Cantonese and jyutping romanisation. Simply print and stick my printable into your copy of “That’s Not My Puppy” ready for your next story time. If you want more instructions on how to do this, check out How I Make my Own Cantonese Books.

The printable is designed to be printed on A4 as this will mean the text will be the perfect size to fit in the board book. However, please check your printer settings to ensure the size you require.

Translation Breakdown and Vocabulary List

If you don’t have the time to use my printable or prefer to translate as you go, I have created a handy cheat sheet of the key vocabulary you will need and a breakdown of the grammatical structure.

I recommend you print the guide out to keep folded in your copy of That’s Not My Puppy so you have it handy in case you need to quickly look up a word. This method has the benefit of saving you from the effort of gluing in all the phrases and keeping your book in pristine condition.

This is my first attempt at translating a book and I am not fluent so please let me know if you have any suggestions for improvement. I’ll be sure to keep my printables up-to-date.
