This week in our Sing and Sign class, AJ and I covered what seemed like a million signs- they seem to have a lot of faith in our sleep-deprived minds (AJ hit his 8 month sleep regression right on queue.) Here, we are going to be focusing on signs about going outside.
Signs of the Week

As our theme this week is all about going out, then the phrase 出去 ceot1 heoi3 is essential. It can be used anytime you are visiting somewhere or if you are just popping out for a walk. It can also be used when you are exiting somewhere.
Our next three signs are designed to help your baby prepare to “出去 ceot1 heoi3”. By signing while you get their shoes, coats and hat on, you are creating a familiar routine that helps children transition to a new environment.
Our final sign is very important: the home sign. Again, using this sign can help your baby transition back to their home environment or help them prepare for their journey home. You can use it to warn your child that they need to finish their game or time in the park or your child can use it to let you know that they are done with an activity. They might even sign it to let you know they need comforting (because what’s more comforting than home?)
Bonus Signs
Now that our babies are ready to go out, let’s cover some signs of places we can go.

Phew! That was a lot of signs we have just covered. Don’t worry if you don’t use all of these signs this week. Pick one or two to add to your repitoire and stay consistent with them. Baby sign language isn’t about teaching your baby an independent way to communicate, rather it’s about cementing their language acquisition in their (soon-to-be) spoken languages.
If you want to cement your own learning, here are our previous signing lessons and our Quizlet deck. Happy Sunday and happy signing!
