Now that I have AJ, I’ve realised that I don’t know that many children’s songs in English and I knew no songs in Cantonese.
I’m slowly growing confidence in singing to AJ in Cantonese anod it’s been fun learning all these fun new songs! One new favourite is the song “Five Little Ducks”- it’s perfect for bath time, walks in the park, or when learning to count.
I was delighted to find a Cantonese version of the song on Sunshine Nursery’s Rhyme YouTube Channel. As with my recent book translations, I saw this as an opportunity to test my listening and comprehension skills. So alongside some support from trusty Pleco, I’ve written up the lyrics in Cantonese, Jyutping and included an English translation of each verse as their meaning is slightly different to the English version. I’ve also included a number line of ducklings to help your child count along to the song.
If you haven’t already, I would subscribe to Sunshine Nursery Rhyme. Their channel is full of delightfully animated Cantonese songs, some translated English songs and some original Chinese songs. Let me know if you have any requests for my next song sheet.
