Cooking has deep roots in AJ’s family. His maternal great grandad was a chef as well as his paternal grandad. Food, especially Cantonese cuisine, plays a huge part in my family’s identity and heritage. This is why I was delighted to fine one of AJ’s favourite things to play with is his toy kitchen. I’ve created colourful Cantonese labels for his play food to provide even more exposure to Cantonese at home. Here’s how you can make them for your littles…

Play Food Label Templates
To create your own play food, first download the labels I created clicking the button below. I recommend printing the pdf out on adhesive paper, making the process of sticking the labels to the play food a lot simpler.
For the food itself, I used this set from BigJigs as well as other sets from Lidl and Aldi (unfortunately, you can’t order the latter two online). If you can’t get a hold of the exact toy sets I used, you can use plain wooden blocks cut/glued into different shapes or real food packaging that you’ve cleaned up. When sourcing toys for AJ, I try to avoid plastic as much as possible but reusing existing plastic packaging is great for the environment too!

Final Thoughts
If you would like to resize my labels or use them as a template to create a larger variety, then you can sign up to my Patreon for as little as £1 a month. Patrons get editable versions of all my printables as well as other bonuses.
What food (packaged or not) do you think is essential to truly represent Cantonese cuisine? I’m planning on creating felt dim sum and other food so would appreciate your thoughts in how I can expand AJ’s kitchen. Just drop a comment below!
