My toxic trait is I’m very good at starting projects but I never finish them completely. For example, I promised you all a second dinosaur-themed post at the start of July and August is now here. Thank you for bearing with this very tired teacher and mama!

Today, I am delighted to bring you two activities that will help you and your child(ren) to learn the names of the dinosaurs in Cantonese. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that dinosaurs are way easier to name in Cantonese than English as the name often describes what the dinosaur is known for, e.g. a triceratops translates to ‘three horned dragon’. My favourite is velociraptor, which translates to ‘clever thief dragon’. Check out the dinosaurs below and let me know your favourite!
Pop-Up Dinosaurs Book Translation
My First Pop-Up Dinosaurs by Owen Davey was, predictably, AJ’s first book about dinosaurs. As a baby, he loves seeing the dinosaurs pop out. He’s nearly three now and can name more dinosaurs in Cantonese than most people can name in English, much to my delight!
To make your own translated version of the book, just print out my translation below and stick the text into your own copy. For further tips and tricks, see my post describing how I create my own Cantonese books.
Dinosaur Writing and Colouring Pages
For older children, here is an extensive collection of colouring pages. I tried my best to include as many dinosaur species as possible and to make the images true-to-life as possible but let me know if your child’s favourite dinosaur is missing and I will see what I can do.
Version #1 – Black and White
If your child wants to colour in the dinosaurs then this is the version for you.

Version #2 – Colour
Maybe your child is too little to colour (or too old) and they just want to practice their writing. I’ve got you.
If you want more dinosaur fun, be sure to check out my dinosaur sensory table activities in my last post. Thank you for sticking around- I’ve many many Cantonese projects on the go, which I can’t wait to share with you. See you soon!
